Personal Social at WoodkirkReligious education, careers advice and other studies begins formally in Year 7 but increases in prominence during Years 9, 10 and 11.
Year 10 students have a two week Work Experience programme, many post-16 students increasingly follow Work Experience or Work Shadowing programmes. There is also an extensive programme of university visits to encourage students to consider Higher Education. All students have individual interviews with specialist Woodkirk tutors and Leeds Careers Service staff. Parents are encouraged to attend these sessions. Religious EducationThe course follows the LEA Agreed Syllabus and is timetabled separately in Years 7 to 9. The teaching of RE involves studying major world religions and encourages an understanding of tolerance and respect for religious ideologies. Collective Worship: assemblies are taken in the Main Hall, Woollin Hall and Green Social Area.
CitizenshipCitizenship became a statutory subject in September 2002 and forms a significant part of the PSRE course. Citizenship themes are also taught in cross-curricular lessons and extra-curricular activities, which adds to the rich variety of experiences we aim for in this subject. The CommunityThe school gives an annual Charity Christmas Carol Service at St Paul's Church. There is an ambitious senior citizens' reception hosted by the Sixth Form, together with Christmas food parcel distribution. A local infants' school comes to Woodkirk for a special party hosted by Year 11 students. |
