Extra Curricular activities

As part of their self-development, students are encouraged to accept additional responsibilities such as:Students are encouraged to be involved in organising and presenting Sixth Form events. The Sixth Form has committees covering Sports and Social Events, Charity and Fund Raising, Arts and Promotions, Debates and Leisure and are represented on the School Council.

After School Activities

Parents

The school and parent body work together as closely as possible. On last year's calendar there were over twenty events or activities, both social and educational, inviting parents to attend school. Annual highlights are the series of Focus Evenings and Review Days when certain year groups are targeted to guide parents with respect to the different key stages.

Citizenship

Citizenship became a statutory subject in September 2002 and forms a significant part of the PSRE course. Citizenship themes are also taught in cross-curricular lessons and extra-curricular activities, which adds to the rich variety of experiences we aim for in this subject.

The Community

The school gives an annual Charity Christmas Carol Service at St Paul's Church. There is an ambitious senior citizens' reception hosted by the Sixth Form, together with Christmas food parcel distribution. A local infants' school comes to Woodkirk for a special party hosted by Year 11 students.

"Thank you for inviting me to your Christmas Party. It's nice to know that Woodkirk children have not forgotten us senior citizens." - Local Senior Citizen
