Woodkirk School ShowsWoodkirk High School's reputation is always reflected in their fabulous anual productions. The school recognises the importance of educating pupils about oral work, mime, dance, drama and theatre and this is carried through into their performances. Parents are encouraged to see productions in the Drama Studio and Main Hall throughout the year, however the anual production is by far and away the most popular bringing audiences from far and wide. Woodkirk is continually investing in their productions by improving lighting, sound and visual effects equipment. Woodkirk has recently raised money for, and invested in, fold-away seating to seat audiences of over 300 in style!
The school shows provide students with fantastic opportunities to learn new skills - on stage, back stage, lighting, sound and in the orchestra pit. Pupils often find that they get a chance to work with a range of people from other age groups and the friendships made through these opportunities often carries on throughout their school life. The staff and pupils that produce these school shows are an incredibly talented and hard working group of people who are constantly committed to producing shows of quality, exicitement and drama. Musical staff, Design and Technology staff, English and Drama staff and many more colaborate together to lead the pupils and help create the set, costumes and direct the students. It has been known for rehearsals to run from the end of school to late into the evening - especially as the production date draws near. The pupils themselves are also very committed. They are expected to attend all the necessary rehearsals including half term holidays and an activity, bonding and rehearsal weekend at Herd Farm in North Leeds. It often seems that the school production forms the basis for the spirit of the school - as one show ends preparations for the next show begin forming a cycling tradition that is almost as old as the school itself. Past Shows:
In 2005 the Drama and Music Departments worked together to perform 'Les Miserables', possibly their most demanding musical, vocal and dramatic challenge to date. In 2006 another show stopper, Disco Inferno, brought the house down with fantastic performances by all the main characters. The production, acting, musical and dancing talents of Woodkirk students have been acclaimed over many years with students performing in a national presentations at the London Palladium, the London Festival Hall, Leeds and Morley Town Hall and many more. |
